How We Are Responding to COVID-19
Since the outbreak of COVID-19, Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has employed a number of measures recommended by the NYS Department of Health (DOH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to best protect the health and safety of our staff and residents:
Suspension of visitation: For the safety of our residents and staff, all visitations are suspended as of today March 13th, 2020.
Staff Wearing a face mask: Healthcare personnel & facility staff shall wear a surgical face mask, while within six feet of residents & one another.
Limitation of non-emergency offsite appointments: Non-emergency offsite appointments shall be canceled/rescheduled at a later date in order to prevent unnecessary potential for exposure.
Staff Health check/screening: All individuals are screened upon entrance to the facility by answering designated questions and a temperature check. Any adverse response, fever or cold symptoms will be addressed accordingly and the individual will not be permitted to remain in the building.
Social Distancing: Staff and residents are educated and encouraged to social distance.

Ongoing Baseline Testing for all residents (updated 5/26/2020): In an effort to identify resident baseline cohorts, all residents are tested for Covid-19.
Resident Covid-19 Support 1-1 Meeting
Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center recreation department will be offering 1-1 daily friendly support visits in each resident’s room. Covid-19 updates will be provided to residents as needed or as desired.
Communications to Families
Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is committed to providing families with novel coronavirus (COVID-19) informational updates posted on our website and personal updates via telephone regarding your loved ones’ specific status as well as other important information. We have also established a dedicated hotline extension on our phone system as an additional avenue of communication. Everyone is encouraged to call 516-889-1100 ext. 890 to reach our designated COVID -19 Family extension hotline where you can listen to covid-19 daily updates and informational briefings. Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center will continue to be available to family members to respond to any questions you may have. Do not hesitate to contact your social worker with any questions. Executive Order 202.18 – Notification to Family or Next of Kin
Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center is committed to providing families with novel coronavirus (COVID-19) informational updates posted on our website and personal updates via telephone regarding your loved ones’ specific status. Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has been, and will always remain transparent in its reporting of COVID-19 information during this pandemic.
In response to Executive Order 202.18 issued by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo on April 19, 2020, all nursing homes licensed by the New York State Commissioner of Health shall notify family members or next of kin of all residents if any resident or staff tests positive for COVID-19. Additionally, if any resident or staff suffers a COVID-19 related death, within 24 hours of such positive test result or death.
In accordance with Executive Order 202.18, Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center will update our designated Covid-19 family notification hotline daily. The hotline message will include the number of new COVID-19 positive tests and COVID-19 related expirations for the past 24-hour period for residents and staff, as well as any other important Covid-19 information. The hotline will be updated daily even if there are no new cases to report.
Executive Order 202.30- Staff Testing (updated 5/20/2020)
Grandell Rehabilitation and Nursing Center began staff testing on May 20th 2020. Any staff member working 4 or more days per week is mandated to be tested for Covid-19 twice weekly. Any staff member working 3 or less days per week is mandated to be tested for Covid-19 once weekly. Any staff member who tests positive will be furloughed for 14 days and can only return to work upon providing a negative test result post furlough. Any positive staff result or 3 symptomatic (respiratory illness) staff within 72 hours will be incorporated into the daily notification on the designated Covid-19 family extension hotline.
Executive Order 202.40– Staff Testing (Updated 6/10/2020)
On 6/10/2020 Governor Andrew Cuomo modified EO 202.30 stating that any facility located in a region that have reached Phase Two of Reopening must test staff once per week.
